Hello! I’m excited to share that we’ve launched a new location for the Chicago STEM for Others Chapter: Hibbard Elementary School! Located in the heart of Albany Park, this elementary school is a cornerstone of the neighborhood’s diverse growing community. We lead weekly lessons Mondays and Thursdays, teaching 3rd-6th graders on Mondays and K-2nd graders on Thursdays. Our mission is to engage curiosity in engineering and science by teaching crafts and guiding experiments! So far, we’ve brought back the rubberband helicopter craft, created popsicle-stick catapults, and connected the concepts of drag and lift to paper airplanes. As many of the students speak Spanish, we have multiple Spanish-speaking volunteers to translate lessons and work one-on-one with students. I’m enthusiastic for what the future holds for both the mentors and the Hibbard Huskies!
