Oak Weekly Review (5/10/25)

May 10, 2025
Hey Cougars! Today we had a special activity about animals, ecosystems, and evolution. We began by exploring trait classification and how certain features help animals thrive in specific environments. Students played quick categorizing games, grouping animal images and guessing their habitats. After a short review of vertebrates vs. invertebrates and the impact of human activity on wildlife, we jumped into our hands-on activity. For the main event, students used binder clips as “beaks” to simulate how birds gather food. They had one minute to collect beads, beans, and nuts—representing different food types—using either a large or small clip. Those with larger clips collected more and were more likely to "survive." We then observed how changing food availability affected which traits were most successful, illustrating natural selection in action! Next lesson will be a party for our last meeting, so no homework!
