Hey Cougars!
Today was week two of our math lesson, where we discussed probability. We started off by giving the kids some time to share their cipher that they made for homework – we were very impressed with the complexity and creativity of some of them! Next, we introduced the key concepts of probability, and had the kids predict the probability of different outcomes in some sample scenarios. We used a coin flipping activity to prove how larger sample sizes give more accurate results than a small sample size.
We finished off with an interactive activity, where each small group was tasked with creating a mini-probability game with dice and coins. They had a lot of fun identifying patterns and creative ways to create a board game!
For Homework:
Choose your own probability experiment to research about at home! (You do not have to specifically do the following :) feel free to get creative)
Flip a coin 10-20 times
Get a bag of colored beads/pens/jelly beans and draw at random from the bag
Roll a dice 5-10 times
Did anything surprise you?
Was the outcome what you expected? Explain why/why not!
