Oak Weekly Review (4/16/25)

April 16, 2025
Hey Cougars! Today, we had another successful meeting where we started our math unit, introducing Cryptography! Cryptography is the science of creating and decoding secret codes, cultivating critical thinking skills along the way. Together, we collaborated through a series of activities to develop a foundational understanding on four main types of cryptography, Caesar Cipher, Morse Code, and Pigpen Cipher. After giving the children and opportunity to try out examples themselves or with a partner, we would work on the board and discuss any questions or confusion they may have. To finish off, we were all able to work on making our secret codes for everyone to decode! Next week, we will be having an Earth Day theme lesson, putting a small pause on our math unit! We encourage the students to think about what they do in their own lives to make a lasting difference on our beautiful planet. For Homework: Friendly reminder homework is due in 2 weeks Create Your Own Code System! Invent your own brand-new cipher. Use math ideas like number patterns, shapes, or shifting rules. Write a short message with your code which will be decoded next week by your peers. Write a set of instructions explaining how it works.
