Hello STEM for Others community! I’m pleased to announce that a new chapter will be launching in Chicago, with our first workshop located at the Albany Park Branch of the Chicago Public Libraries. Taking place in September, this workshop will introduce kids 7–11 to basic engineering and physics principles! We will be crafting rubber band helicopters using plastic propellers, popsicle sticks, and paper. Topics include potential energy stored in the rubber band, kinetic energy released through the propeller, air resistance, and lift. Our goal is to excite the children of Albany Park about STEM, and eventually launch longer-term programs! I’m grateful for the library’s willingness to collaborate and provide materials, and for STEM for Others support thus far!
