About Rachel
Rachel Kim is the President of STEM for Others, a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free STEM education to K–12 students. She is a student at Los Altos High School in Los Altos, California. Under her leadership, STEM for Others has grown from its first chapter at Sunrise Middle School into more than 100 chapters with over 700 student volunteers.
What she works on
Rachel oversees the free STEM for Others curriculum: 40 courses in coding, math, science, and engineering that volunteers teach in schools, libraries, and community centers. She works with student curriculum developers to turn difficult topics into hands-on lessons that younger students can follow.
Why she writes these guides
Rachel writes guides for high school students who want to get involved in STEM: finding volunteer opportunities, starting clubs, and building experience that matters. Her advice comes from doing that work herself, as a student leading a volunteer organization.
