Hi everyone! Recently we had our fourth and fifth pre algebra classes on 8/26 and 8/31 respectively. During our fourth class we practiced some basic fractions to start before we got, percents, discounts, markups, and percent change. We did lots of word/context questions to practice before moving into ratios and later proportions. We went through the material fast, so we were able to have some free time to answer questions and do some additional practice at the end of class. Today, we had our fifth class centered around variables solving one step and multistep equations. We first taught them some important vocabulary for solving equations before getting into one-step equations. Then we reviewed some important concepts like additive, communicative, and distributive properties. We spent longer than expected teaching how to combine like terms and keep an equation balanced while solving, so we were only able to get through a portion of the material. Everyone was focused and engaging with the learning this week as well. We will pick up where we left off next class!
