Hello Coyotes! Yesterday, on Thursday October 28, our second meeting of the Coding Coyotes Club commenced. We had plenty of new students that didn't show up last week, so we started off slow, getting everyone used to print statements and comments. The students that showed up last week were given the opportunity to demonstrate their learnings from last week by showing the rest of their class what constitutes a good print statement and what fails, and how to put comments appropriately in the code. After this, we got into a new topic, data types, in which students learned about the 4 data types: strings (normal sentences), integers (numbers without a decimal point), floating points (numbers with a decimal point), and booleans (a true/false binary). After students briefly learned about how each data type worked, we played a game called 'Name that Data Type', where we typed things into a print statement, and students had to guess which data type that was, with no trick questions to it! Overall, I feel like this was really productive, given that half of today's batch was brand-new. Next class, we are going to dive into variables, which is what the data types make up, and how they can be used to store data for later. This will be really important for the rest of their coding journeys, so I bet they will have lots of fun experimenting with them! See you all next week on Thursday November 5, and go Coyotes!
