Welcome Laguna Middle!

I'm proud to announce our latest chapter, Laguna Middle School in San Luis Obispo, California. This chapter is led by Geethi and other students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Here is Geethi in her own words:

"Hello! My name is Geethi, and I am excited to lead the San Luis Obispo chapter of STEM for Others.

As a Biological Sciences major who explored several fields throughout college, I strive to show students how the subjects they enjoy can connect to meaningful careers. Our San Luis Obispo chapter has recently begun partnering with Laguna Middle School, where we work closely with the STEAM teacher to integrate hands-on projects into students’ classwork. These projects are designed to reflect the types of internship and professional experiences Cal Poly students encounter.

Each Monday, Cal Poly upperclassmen from majors including Economics, Statistics, Biology, Computer Science, and Landscape Architecture visit Laguna Middle School during fourth through sixth periods to work with students. Each semester we strive to complete 4-5 projects across all STEM disciplines, while offering mentorship to middle school students helping them pursue individual passion projects and guidance. By working at the middle school level we hope to pique interest in careers that students can translate to relevant subjects as they enter high school and eventually potentially pursue their higher education.
